Write Around the Murray (WAM) is a celebration of the literary arts, dedicated to fostering a love for reading, writing, and storytelling. This festival serves as a platform for voices from various backgrounds to be heard, connecting people through the power of narrative. Each year, WAM curates a diverse program that reflects the contemporary literary landscape, encouraging community engagement and creative expression.
Highlights include the Albury City Short Story Award and the River of Stories competition for young writers.
Key activities include author talks, workshops, live readings, panel discussions, and educational programs for schools. The festival also features events such as the Sydney Writers’ Festival Live & Local program and the Blak & Bright First Nations Literary Festival livestream.
Past Authors: The festival has seen participation from Miles Franklin Literary Award-winner Melissa Lucashenko, New York Times bestseller Sally Hepworth, and journalist David Marr. Other guest writers have included Charlotte Wood, Nam Le, and Christos Tsiolkas.
