“Ten Days on The Island” is an extraordinary biennial arts festival that celebrates the unique cultural and artistic spirit of Tasmania. Spanning over two decades, this festival has become a beacon of artistic expression and community involvement across the island.
At the heart of “Ten Days on The Island” is the celebration of Tasmania’s unique identity and the rich cultural heritage of its indigenous people, the Palawa/Tasmanian Aborigines. The festival respectfully acknowledges their role as the original owners and cultural custodians of the lands and waters across Lutruwita/Tasmania where the festival takes place. This deep-rooted respect is a fundamental part of the festival’s ethos.
Over the years, “Ten Days on The Island” has distinguished itself by actively supporting and investing in new works by Tasmanian artists. Encouraging local artists to take risks and create groundbreaking works, the festival has presented over 1200 individual events in more than 140 locations around Tasmania, engaging more than 1.5 million attendees.
