In the charming town of Guyra, the Lamb and Potato Festival was established in 1982 and is staged annually over a 10 day period in January. Guyra is located on the New England Highway, about 30 minutes away from Armidale in New South Wales. We had a road stop there early in 2024 enjoyed lunch under the majestic canopy of elm trees in the local park.
This festival is a celebration of regional gastronomy, featuring delectable lamb and potato dishes- in fact you can get as many lamb variety dishes as you can imagine with A Paddock to Plate theme. to
In synergy with the festival, the local community organises a range of diverse events, transforming Guyra into an fun time for a summertime escapade. There’s plenty of music from local and emerging bans to watch whilst having a cool drink.
Classic caravans are on display, military vehicles, antique machinery, model trains, shop window displays and a pretty decent craft market and boutique stalls. The Shine n’ Show event is fun with Utes, Bikes, Trucks and Classic Cars on display.
It emerges as an idyllic sojourn for wayfarers during school recess or for those journeying to the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
